Earlier this month, our delivery crew completed a 1,700NM non-stop passage from St. Martin to Annapolis aboard a 46’ Leopard sailing catamaran. It was a textbook example of why professional route planning, vessel handling, and contingency management are essential for long-haul deliveries.

We departed St. Martin on a clean forecast — steady trades, moderate seas, and a comfortable window to make the run north. But offshore weather has a mind of its own. Halfway through the passage, a low-pressure system built unexpectedly, tightening up faster than any model had predicted.

This is where experience matters.

Our captains adjusted course, shifted our routing strategy, and made the call to dodge the developing storm by altering our approach to the Gulf Stream. That decision put us into 10+ foot waves, but it also kept us clear of the heavier offshore conditions building behind the system. The boat handled beautifully, and our crew executed the plan with calm, practiced precision.
